9 Ways to Troubleshoot for IE has Stopped Working Error

If you have been experiencing “Internet Explorer has stopped working” error frequently, here are some good solutions and troubleshooting guidelines you can use to help you to reduce your painful experience for using IE:

Troubleshooting 1: Disable Protected Mode

Tools > Internet Options > Sercurity tab > Untick the option “Enable Protected Mode” > Apply > OK > Restart Internet Explorer

Troubleshooting 2: Resetting IE

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset

Troubleshooting 3: Resetting IE to default.

Close IE
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > ‘Advanced’ tab > Reset

Tick the box “Delete personal settings” > Reset

Troubleshooting 4: Other Microsoft services affecting IE

Close IE
Start > Run > msconfig
Click “Selective Startup” > Uncheck Load startup items
Click “Services tab” > Check “Hide all Microsoft services box”
Click “Disable all” -> Click “OK”
Restart your PC now

Troubleshooting 5: Other possible resolutions

Disable Toolbars
Disable Addons (Disable all addons, then activate individual addon one at a time until you can no longer reproduce the problem)
Restore system via system restore
Reinstall IE or using a newer version of IE.

Troubleshooting 6: Microsoft Office Office Repair

In Vista and Office 2007 go to Start-Control Panel [Classic View] – Program and Features – right-click on Microsoft Office and select Change – then select Repair and OK.

Troubleshooting 7: Disable/Enable Addons

1. Disable all addons, then activate individual addon one at a time until you can no longer reproduce the problem) => IE > Tools > Internet Options> Programs > Manage Add-ons

Troubleshooting process:

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons).
Use it for a while, close it, and see, if same error happens.
Now, you have to investigate.
Start IE normally. Disable all add-ons. Use IE for a while.
Shut IE down.
Restart. Enable ONE addon.
Shut IE down. Use IE for a while.
OK? If so, restart, enable one more addon.
Shut it down. Use IE for a while.
OK?…..and so on.Main suspect: ‘toolbars’.

Troubleshooting 8: Disable OmniPage.

Start > Search> Type “msconfig” > Startup tab > uncheck Omnipage

Alternatively, you may also consider to “Uninstall” the OmniPage application via…

Start> Control Panel > Programs and Features

Troubleshooting 9: If IE unable to open due to IE crash…

1. Right-Click “IE” > Properties

2. Tools > internet options > Advanced, scroll all the way down Security > Uncheck the option “enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks”.

How to Export Ping Results to Notepad

1. Click Start>Run (Start>”Start search” in Vista).

2. Type in (or copy and paste):

cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$¬epad %temp%\$.$

and press Enter.

3. Notepad will open.

4. Save and create the file name on the notepad for the ping results.

Simple Troubleshooting for Successfully Burned CD or DVD Showed Blank Content

If your CD/DVD drive unable to read discs that is being burned successfully, here are some simple troubleshooting guidelines you can use to troubleshoot your optical drive. For this article, I’ll use Window Vista, Laptop and external CD/DVD writer (optical drive) for troubleshooting:

1. Quality of CD : CD-R / CD-RW? Normal / High-Quality CD-R/W

You might have burnt the CD somehow with some information which was interrupted anyhow… Since Recordable media can only write on once, which mean when the burn failed the disc is not reusable. Quality of CD-R may also affect the results after burning.

2. Is the CD/DVD writer in-built / external?

If the CD/DVD writer is external device, you can use on another optical drive or laptop for troubleshooting. Don’t have to buy, simply borrow from your friend for testing purpose.

3. Use other CD to test burn again.

Resolution 1: Replace the CD-R with higher quality CD-R.

Some lower quality CD-R has manufacturing defects due to lower product quality control. That’s the reason why the lower quality CD-R can sell cheaply on the market. Change the CD-R to test again a few times if you have existing set or replace it with a higher quality CD-R. This is one of the quickest and simplest ways to troubleshoot your problem.

4. Read and open files using another working CD.

This is to ensure that your CD/DVD drive and Laptop are working on the first stage of initialization. If you can use an original CD to see if it reads its files, the problem can be stream down to the burning process between the CD-R, the optical drive and the laptop as my initial troubleshooting. Hardware issue will be less likely to be the cause for the problem.

5. If you burn your CD at maximum speed. You can try to burn the CD at lower speed.

Resolution 2: Burn CD at slower speed

After burning the CD, if you can’t read the files in your PC using your external CD/DVD writer, then take the exiting CD to another Laptop or PC and CD/DVD drive to test it out. If the CD can be read on another PC and CD/DVD drive, that means problem may lie to your CD/DVD drive or Laptop itself.

You test to burn the disc at the “LOWER” speed. There are some drives out there that are less sensitive and will have problems reading disc that are burned at the maximum speed.

If you want to burn using Vista inbuilt CD-burning software, then here is how to set the recording speed.

Setting recording speed in Windows Vista
1. Insert a blank CD and drag whatever files that you want to burn to the drive.
2. Click “Burn to disc” button.
3. You get to select the recording speed in Burn to disc window.

6. Use your external CD writer use on another Laptop for troubleshooting.

If you can burn your CD on another laptop using your own CD external writer, but can’t burn on your own laptop, that means the problem lies on the Laptop or driver issue.

7. Use your laptop on another CD/DVD writer to test.

If you can burn your CD-R on using your Laptop on another external CD writer, but just can’t burn on your own external CD writer, that means problem lies on the CD external drive or driver issue.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801

Finally, I have found the easiest way to root my Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801 safely after hours of researching through the net.

I have tested the method on my phone and managed to root it successfully within 10 minutes. Best of all, it keeps all my data and settings. But this method is said to only works for Android version Eclair 2.1

This is my phone specification before rooting:

1. Model: Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801

2. Android version: Eclair 2.1

Let’s get started now:

1. Download ‘SGS Eclair Easy Rooting’ file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7235987

2. Unzipped ‘SGS Eclair Easy Rooting’ file.

3. Make sure your phone is NOT Connected to PC and exit all Samsung Kies program.

4. In your phone, go to Setting > Applications > Development > USB-Debugging is ticked.

5. Open ‘SGS Eclair Easy Rooting’ folder. Double-click the start (Window Batch File) button.

6. Select ’1’ and key Enter button.

7. A new instruction box appears. Make sure you have followed the instructions closely before continue the next step.

8. Connect your phone to PC. A ‘Warning Triangle’ will appear.

9. Make sure you have followed the instructions. Press any key from the keyboard to continue.

Your phone will reboot to ‘Recovery’ mode.

10. A new set of instruction menu will appears.

11. Navigate the option “apply sdcard: update.zip” with the Volume Control of your phone.

12. Press the “Home” button of your phone.

13. Rooting will start processing. If the rooting process doesn’t run, press the “Home” button again.

14. The phone will start to reboot normally when the rooting process completed.

15. To check whether your phone has been rooted, go to the main menu, you will know your phone has been rooted by a new app icon identify as “Superuser”

You may have created a blog in WordPress for quite some time and for some reasons you want to move all your contents to another domain name. If you do not know how to move your blog content, here are the steps you’ll want to follow to export your old blog contents and import them to a new domain name without writing the same stuff all over again.

1. Tools > Export

2. Choose what type of WordPress content you want to export out. In this post, I will choose “All content”. Click onto “Download Export File” button and start exporting your content in “xml” file.

3. Log in to your new WordPress domain. Go to Tools > Import. If you are first time importing you WordPress content, you will see this particular page as shown. Choose WordPress as your importer platform .

4. Click “Install Now” for your WordPress importer plugin.

5. Click on the link “Activate Plugin & Run Importer”

6. Click on the “Browse” button for your “xml” file you have saved earlier at Step 2. Then click on the button “Upload file and import” to start importing your WordPress content in your new domain.

7. Assign your Author name, and click on the “Submit” button to import your file attachments (i.e. images) from your previous WordPress.
